Här är en intervju med som jag har gjort med Callum Medcraft som är grundare och chefredaktör på tidningen.

Can you tell us how Jiu Jitsu Style Magazine started?
I have been training for coming up to six years and, like many of us, got hooked on jiu jitsu after my first class. I was working for Chelsea Football Club’s TV channel at the time, but I have always had a keen interest in journalism and photography. Despite landing a job in football, (and as Chelsea supporter), I had a real desire to launch a jiu jitsu magazine that just got stronger and stronger over time.  Through my work I met someone with a background in the print industry and I began to seriously consider taking the big step to leave my job and to launch Jiu Jitsu Style. I received a lot of support and encouragement from the jiu jitsu community here in the UK, my family and girlfriend all said ‘go for it’, so I did. The first issue came out in February 2011 and we’ve never looked back. Our primary focus has always been to showcase the amazing people within the jiu jitsu community with in-depth pictures and awesome interviews – we hope you guys like it!

Issue #15 was the first issue to hit Swedish stores. How long have you been interested in the Swedish market?
We’ve always had Sweden down as one of the main countries in Europe that we wanted to make the magazine available in. There seems to be a thriving community of like-minded jiu jitsu enthusiasts across the nation, so we are really happy that we have been able to get the mag on the shelves there.

In which countries is Jiu Jitsu Style Magazine available?
At the moment you can find the magazine on newsstands in the UK, USA, Belgium, Italy and of course, Sweden. We are also launching in Germany from issue 16 as well. The digital version sells all over the world, as you would expect.

What do you think of the Swedish BJJ scene?
I visited Sweden a few years ago, but never got the chance to train. However, what I have learned from travelling to competitions across Europe is that Sweden has a growing number of top-notch competitors coming through the ranks. It also seems that people from Sweden really, (really) love their jiu jitsu. As I said, that’s one of the main reasons it was important to get the magazine into Sweden, as Jiu Jitsu Style is for people who are crazy about jiu jitsu.

Any particular Swedish grappler you have noticed?
Yeah of course! Checkmat’s Janni Larsson has been on our radar for quite some time now – plus she has just got her black belt. We have also kept a close eye on the Svensson brothers since they were blue belts and it is great to see them do so well at events like the Abu Dhabi WPJJC.

Will we see any interviews with any Swedes soon?
We hope so, absolutely. Though we are based in the UK, we feature athletes and jiu jitsu celebrities from all over the world; so content with Swedish grapplers is 100% on the cards. If anyone would like to contact me personally with any editorial ideas my email is callum@bjjstyle.com.
