Pre-ADCC interview: Pablo Popovitch
After winning ADCC 2009 and been in the finals in both 2007 & 2005, do you feel a lot of pressure now?
No pressure whatsoever, only the desire to win again. I never pressure myself in that way, I pressure myself to train hard and give my best in every competition. The results are the effect of that.
You are now competing in the -88kg division instead of the -77kg, is that due do the new weigh-in rules?
I changed weight division because one of my black belts, Vagner Rocha, won the 77kg qualifiers. I also want to be heavier for the absolute division.
How are you preparing for the ADCC Worlds 2011?
I am preparing like I always did. Hard, with the determination and a lot of planning. Each match is a different game, and I have to be ready for the challenges ahead of me.
What do you think about competitors list?
Looks great so far, lots of great competitors and it gives me the excitement to train hard and dedicate myself to this tournament.
Do you think we will see any epic fights?
Many, LOL.
How is it to compete at the highest level and also run your three academies?
Not easy, but I love it. It’s a lot of work but by the end of the day it’s all worth it.
Your favorite submission?
Kimura.
